This carnival thing wasn't too bad at all. I snapped some shots on my phone while I was there, and they're pretty goddamn inspirational. Figured there'd be some of you who'd be interested. Y'know, if you missed the highlight of the hotdog eating competition.

Anyways. It's almost the 22nd. S'not really a birthday, I mean, how the hell're you supposed t'remember what day you're born when you don't have calenders? But it's as good a time as any.

So I'm taking off for a few days to go home and check up on things. I don't really get how you guys celebrate birthdays. Makes more sense t'me that if you're gonna make a deal of it, it should be about the people who made you.

It's been a long while since I saw the Garden in spring.

Listen, whenever you got a job you need to ask ahead of time for time off, not just tell your boss that you're leavin' especially since this ain't an emergency and your birthday didn't come outta nowhere. This is somethin' you shoulda planned for ahead of time and asked about it earlier than the day before you leave.

It's for your garden thing, and I said that I'd let you go for that sorta thing. But because this ain't an emergency, so your pay's gonna get docked. Next time you want a week off, ask for it a couple of weeks before you want to take time off and I can get the paperwork moved through to get you paid vacation time.

And Bulba, why should I see you as a venusaur?

Listen, Vinnie, that was a secret I couldn't keep.

Keepin' it was hurtin' Bulba more every time I saw him and hurtin' me every time I saw him alone and without an answer. Maybe the answer hurt, too, but I wasn't gonna keep him from the one thing that would let him get over it.

Pullin' a bullet out on the field when you ain't got anestictics (I dunno how to spell that word) hurts like hell, but you can't leave the bullet in. It's gotta come out. Bulba had a bullet in his shoulder that he didn't know was there. All I did was tell him he had a bullet and where it was. I couldn't take it out for him. But he needed to know it was there.

And Bulba, I'm sorta... still tryin' to finish this godawful physics homework thing so maybe you could meet me for dinner and we can talk over dinner 'cause I ain't got any free time until Friday because of this stupid homework packet.

Yeah, so instead you let him dig the bullet out his shoulder himself and he gets even more screwed up and infected. You didn't even tell me you told him! You knew who was involved in it all, you just thought it'd be great to act all on your own.

I promised Green cuz he's Bulba's trainer and that means what he says, goes. It wasn't your call to make, Max, even if you thought it was the right thing t'do.

I asked him what he wanted me to do. If he wanted me to go with him to talk with you about it, or to go talk with Green about it.

He said he didn't want me to go. It was somethin' he wanted to do on his own. And I let him have that. Maybe I was dumb to do that, but I let him at least have that much.

If Green's pissed at me for tellin' him, then Green can take that up with me without you actin' as Green's go between. The truth, no matter what anybody's opinion of it is, needs to be known. If I kept the truth from you for whatever reason other than some sorta state secret, it'd be wrong, and you'd be right to try and find it out.

Ugh, first of all, I'm not Green's little messenger. I haven't even talked t'him yet, I don't even like the guy. It's the principle of things.

What if I went against a direct order cuz I disagreed with you? Doesn't matter who was right or wrong, cuz when someone gets hurt as a result? I'm betting you'd be fucking pissed.

I trusted you with something, and you went and broke it cuz you knew better. Yeah. Letting him go was dumb. You do something like that, you better be prepared for the bad that happens cuz've your judgment call.

It ain't about orders. It's about truth. Sometimes truth burns a hole right through you.

But it's the truth. If I ordered you to tell a lie? Then I'd be wrong. And if you told the truth instead you'd be right in tellin' it instead.

I'll tell you that right now. If I ever give you an order to tell a lie? Or to not tell somebody the truth? You break that? I'm gonna be pissed at you but you're gonna be the one in the right.

And if I tell you to lie, you probably ain't dealin' with me, you're dealin' with a clone of me.

It ain't that I knew better than you about Bulba it's that it ain't in me to lie when I know, or to not do somethin' when I know.

You know what, I'm gonna come clean. Thank you for makin' me see where I've been keepin' secrets in my life. That makes me a liar. And I can't stand that.

I'm not gonna agree with you on everything, but I can respect a man who's got convictions.

Bulba should've heard the truth from Green first, but... what's done is done. I'm not gonna focus on what-ifs anymore.

And I'm fine with getting docked for runnin' off, by the way. I don't really understand what paid vacation time is. Getting money while you're not working doesn't make sense t'me, but I'll do the paperwork next time.
