FAMILY
(silentchamp)	RED the CHAMPION There's a seed of bitterness here, where Red is concerned. Once upon a time, Vinnie considered his reserved, serious, stoic manner to be the definition of strength. But coupled with the influence of his father and Max, he's beginning to redefine for himself what it means to be a man - but as a result, it's also made him aware of his trainer's flaws. All the more when Vinnie compares them to his own. It's no mistake that the team cares for Red dearly. More than anything, Vinnie wants to be able to protect him, and to make him proud. But there are wounds that not even Red can make better, and Vinnie is slowly learning this fact. The Venusaur's injury was the first blow to his confidence, and his continued handicap has made him question his place on the team. Keeping shameful secrets from his trainer has sadly, become a habit as a result - one not helped at all by Red's disappearance from the school. He can't exactly hold it against Red for leaving, since that's something Vinnie had to do for himself before. And the rest of Red's team loves him so unconditionally that the Venusaur doesn't want to stir the pot. But denying himself the right to feel angry has only made his bitterness grow. In his absence, Vinnie has grown more and more determined to be independent, to go back to relying on only himself. And as he's done so, the distance between him and Red has been widening. Emotionally, he feels forgotten. And while the Grass Type has always been able to take care of himself, he still needs a family to feel complete. With Red's amnesia upon his return, it's only become more and more frustrating for him to keep doing his job. The inevitability of his wild instincts are beginning to rear its head - one day, he knows he'll have to leave Red's side and rejoin the forest. But that's another secret he's been keeping locked away.
(tidalwaves)	MARIE the WARTORTLE There are many things that Marie and Vinnie do not see eye to eye on. Their natures are pretty much opposites, after all. Considering that Vinnie was a Bulbasaur who just wanted to grow up too fast, he simply can't understand why anyone would be afraid of evolving. As Red's starter, Marie has the potential to become the most powerful out of any of them - but he's so adverse to change. Despite their differences though, he and the Squirtle used to be quite close. Marie was the one who got him into texting, and he was the one Vinnie turned to when he needed a partner in crime. However, in a rather misguided attempt to grow stronger after his injury, Vinnie began isolating himself from his family - and Marie was probably the most affected. In turn, his younger brother began acting out in more petulant, bratty ways, and held this grudge against him for some time. It wasn't until after the Venusaur did some considerable soul searching that they began to reconcile, albeit on a lot of shaky ground. Despite all his awful behaviour as of late, Vinnie is still very protective of Marie, and cares about him greatly. The Squirtle's heart may be filled with anxieties and teenage angst, but it's still in the right place.
(punchvolcanoes)	SASHA the CHARIZARD It drives Vinnie a little insane that his little tomboy sister is quickly becoming her own woman. Everything was much simpler when it was just 7 of them on an ice mountain, but now that she's finding her way in this world, it's forced him to re-evaluate the delicate balance between being a good big brother and being an overprotective dickhead. These are new levels of trust he needs to deal with here, because it is his fervent wish that she doesn't make the same mistakes he did when he was younger. There's a small, competitive side of him - the Ivysaur that used to butt heads with her all the time - that is somewhat bitter at how much she's blossomed since the fight that crippled him. Thanks to the Fire Dojo, the Charizard's become stronger than before, while he still struggles to not feel useless. Vinnie's afraid that one day, she simply won't need him anymore. Still, she's the only Fire Pokemon that's ever made him believe that flames could be anything other than horrific and destructive. Sasha is his sun. He usually confides in her before anyone else on his team, and despite how he acts towards her suitors, Vinnie just wants her to be happy.
(punchthedoritos)	SONNY MOE the SNORLAX As far as Vinnie is concerned, Sonny is probably the strongest Pokemon on their team. Not because of levels or attacks or anything. But because he is somehow able to hold up such powerful, supportive optimism in the face of all despair. It is honestly staggering sometimes. He's aware that Sonny idolizes him a little - though Vinnie can't really fathom why - and in return, he always tries to do his very best to be a good brother to him. Not a lot of people are aware of how he's affected by the social challenges of being a Snorlax, after all. But Vinnie will always be there to offer his advice and support. More than anyone, Sonny deserves what's good in the world. He is the most dependable dorm mate and the most earnestly lovable brother Vinnie could possibly ask for, in spite of their very opposite lifestyles. Sonny is the rock of stability in his life, and he couldn't be more thankful for him.
(punchpokeballs)	CHIKA the PIKACHU In a lot of ways, Chika reminds Vinnie of himself when he was younger. Angry, loud, prone to fights and full of attitude. He can relate to those restless teenage years, but he also worries where it might lead her. A large part of him feels like he's let her down because rather than opening up about his turmoils, he ran off to find himself in the forest and became a wandering hobo for a while - something she still hasn't forgiven him for. Vinnie's at a loss as to how to help her or make things better she the Pikachu has been so abrasively reclusive, but taking her barbs is only what he deserves.

RIVALS
(rivalappeared)	GREEN the GYM LEADER Vinnie isn't entirely sure what to feel about Green sometimes. Being Red's rival isn't something inherently detestable to him, but the trainer's arrogant attitude has never made him very beloved. The two trainers are definitely more than simply enemies, but the Venusaur can't understand why Green has such an inability to display outward kindness. Still, there are fleeting occasions where Green has revealed that he cares, deep down inside. This possibility was brought even more to light by the startling picture that was drawn of a timid, sweet, alternate universe Green. Dying in his arms was an uncomfortably intimate moment that Vinnie isn't too fond of remembering, but can't quite forget. Green's penchant for blatant antagonizing is a bit less effective now knowing this, and it's nice to see that being an RA and Gym Leader has grounded him with at least some sense of responsibility. Maybe he won't ever be friends with him, but at this point Vinnie can trust that the Viridian Gym Leader will at least always do right by his own team. That would have to be enough.
(rivalsweetscent)	BULBA the IVYSAUR Bulba has pretty much been the only Saur that Vinnie has known ever since leaving the Garden, and even though it's taken a while, he's glad he can call him a friend. In the beginning, there was nothing there but jealousy. Vinnie himself had always stuck out among his family for his attitude, and in the end he was estranged from them - so the fact that there was this lab-born Bulbasaur who wasn't even a proper Child of the Forest that was somehow so Saur-like in temperament infuriated him. Ever since he evolved, that resentment has given way to something different. As a Venusaur, he can't help but feel responsible for the younger Saur now, along with the many, many other duties of a fully evolved Pokemon. Even if they remained on rival teams, it's difficult for Vinnie to think of Bulba as someone to compete against - rather, they're simply a different kind of kin by virtue of their Type. Finally, someone who understands this floral half of him that none of his teammates can relate to. Someone bound to the same instincts and urges, the same ancestry. It's brought a lot of feelings to the fore that he hadn't previously given thought to. There will always be a bit of disappointment that Bulba could never join him in being a truly Wild Saur - with how their brains are wired, Vinnie knows for a fact that the Ivysaur will always be bound to Green. But that only makes it his responsibility to be the one to teach Bulba their heritage and traditions. The job is one he doesn't really feel up to - after all, in many ways the Ivysaur is a lot more mature than him. He's textbook smart, rational, caring and controlled. Without saying so, Vinnie sometimes feels like he's the one being mentored. As far as he's concerned, Bulba's stronger than him by far. Sometimes their relationship is a little tenuous considering Green Team, but as far as Vinnie is concerned, they can suck it. He would care for Bulba without being asked.
